Tryon Creek is a great place to go hiking. It is one of my favorite and most successful places to see wild life. a few weeks ago I attended a evening guided hike and got to see wood peckers just hammering away 3 on one tree and huge chunks of wood falling down. On damp days there are a lot of cool looking banana slugs and snails.
Another time I have seen two young Bard Owls.

The Free Guided tours a awsome, my 3 year old loves these goups most of them consist of 3-6 years old kids and their parents.
I have even been so lucky as to have my child be a part of testing Obie's creek with one of the rangers.http://www.tryonfriends.org/
